Husbands & Husbands

This has to be one of the cutest videos I've seen in a long time.  Little Calen explains to a married gay couple that husbands are men and wives are women when he suddenly comes to the realization that men can have husbands and excitedly shouts, "SO THAT MEANS YOU LOVE EACH OTHER!"

At approximately 5-years old, Calen has a more mature understanding of marriage equality than most adults.

"You're much alike."

[Calen, a little boy, is standing in a bathroom next to a sink, looking up into the camera.]

Calen: A husband’s a boy.

Adult male voice from behind camera: Right.

Calen: A wife is a girl and a husband’s a boy. Then you two are husbands! [He hold up two fingers on both hands.] Wifes are girls; husbands are boys.

Voice from behind camera: Right.

Second adult male voice, from next to camera: That’s right. So, if you’re a boy—

Calen: You’ll be a husband.

Second Voice: Right.

First Voice: Yeah, we’re both husbands.

Calen: [puts his head in his hand] You’re both husbands?

Second Voice: Is that confusing—

Calen: You married each other?! That’s funny! [slaps hand to head]

Second Voice: That’s funny, right?

Calen: Yeah. [looks thoughtful] I usually see husbands and wives, but this is the VERY FIRST TIME I saw husbands and husbands! [grins excitedly]

[The two men laugh; Second Voice peers around and grins into camera.]

Calen: So funny. [edit] So that means you LOVE EACH OTHER!

First Voice: Yeah.

Calen: Yeah. Yeah, they’re much alike. You’re much alike. Hey, I’m going to play ping-pong now.

First Voice: Okay.

[Camera follows Calen out into the hallway; he turns back and looks at the two men.]

Calen: You can play if you want to.

Text onscreen: You’re much alike.

"Everybody Hurts" Cover - Helping Haiti

One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands has been remade to help raise money for Haiti relief efforts.  The cover of R.E.M.'s Everybody Hurts, which has been produced by Simon Cowell,  is being sung by an all-star cast, which features:  

Mariah Carey, Jon Bon Jovi, Miley Cyrus, Robbie Williams, Kylie, Rod Stewart, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Take That, Joe McElderry, Cheryl Cole, JLS, Mika, Michael Bublé, James Blunt, James Morrison, Westlife and Susan Boyle.

The cover will be available for download on February 7.

The Hierarchy of Digital Distractions

We've all had those days when we're stuck in yet another boring, pointless meeting and cannot wait to get back to our desk to check our email, phones, facebook, Twitter and the like.  But lately, checking personal cell phones and social networking sites have become commonplace with office workers. This is a common conversation I have on a weekly basis:

Random friend:  "Dude, you've been on facebook all morning."  

Me:  "I don't work...what's your excuse?"

David McCandless has come up with a Hierarchy of Digital Distractions that shows our priorities at work when dealing with digital distractions.

It doesn't surprise me that the iPhone takes up residency at the top.  I haven't actually worked while in possession of my iPhone (I was laid off the day I purchased it), but I have many friends who use theirs throughout the day.  Twitter or IM blocked at work?  No problem.  Just jump on your iPhone.  Need to check your personal email about a job prospect?  Good thing you have an iPhone.

Twitter has its own hierarchy.  A re-tweet trumps all, followed by a tweet by a hot stranger, which amazingly enough trumps a friend.  Sorry colleague, but you're just a step above a palpable weirdo which is why I haven't accepted you as a friend on facebook yet, so stop requesting me.  No, seriously.  Stop requesting me.

An email from a friend ranks quite a few levels higher than a work email.  I guess that budget will just have to wait until you're done with your digital smoochy faces or smoothing over last night's argument.  Then again, that budget can't be that important.  After all, everything trumps work.

Anti-Gay Marriage Ad, "Gathering Storm"

With gay marriage becoming a increasingly stronger reality in our country, the "pro-family" group, The National Organization for Marriage, has released this obscenely ridiculous ad, complete with dramatically mocking religious storm pretense.  Riddled with lies and falsehoods, the convincingly "real people" in this ad state that gay marriage will take away their freedoms, take away their choices and change the way they live.

After you're done watching the "real people" spew their hateful falsities in the name of religion, you can watch their audition tapes below.

And like my friend Greg said, a storm is coming...don't forget your umbrella...it's going to be raining gays.

Man Gets DUI On Bar Stool

Hysterical and rather ingenious.

In a law enforcement first, Ohio cops this month arrested a man for drunk driving on a motorized bar stool. That's right, a motorized bar stool, which can be seen below in a police evidence photo. According to cops, Kile Wygle, 28, crashed his bar stool near his Newark home earlier this month and called 911 due to his injuries. When an officer arrived and asked Wygle what happened, he answered, "I wrecked my bar stool."   A plastered Wygle, who failed a series of field sobriety tests, was charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license, both misdemeanors. His bar stool was not impounded.
