Gillette is reaching out to body shavers in their new ad titled, "How To Shave Your Groin." I don't have much to say about this...but you must watch it. I think the tag line says it all:
Today, the Illinois legislature was slated to vote on the
Civil Union Bill, which would grant same sex couples in Illinois the same legal
recognition and many of the benefits that straight married couples currently
benefit from.Because of this landmark bill,
an email and facebook blast was sent out to gay Illinoisans and their
supportive friends and family encouraging them to contact their local State
Representative.Using the provided script,
I took 45 seconds out of my life and called my Representative and asked her to
support the bill.
Though many of my straight friends jumped at the opportunity
to support the bill, I was saddened to find not only the lack of knowledge, but
the amount of apathy in the gay community over what is tantamount to the
beginning of a civil rights movement in our state. After the Proposition 8 debacle, I thought eyes
would be widened, answers would be demanded and anger would be inflamed.Civil rights are being denied and these
rights extend beyond the right to marry to the right to employment
non-discrimination, the right to hate crime protections, the right to fight for
our country and the right to feel like an equal citizen.
All too often, many in the gay community demand equal
rights, yet few of them are willing to do the work.Equally frustrating are those who complain
about their lack of rights but refuse to do anything about it, including
vote.Asking for their participation at
a rally to show solidarity for their community for two hours or to spend a
minute making a phone call to their government is hardly much to ask for
something as important as basic rights afforded by the Constitution.
Don’t just get angry.Don’t just complain.Do something
about it.
Rob Tisinai created a video of talking points for people who are either il-informed or anti-gay marriage. Tisinai addresses and refutes all of the inaccurate, and often misguided, arguments cast by opponents.
One of my favorite summer shows is So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD). While my favorite genre of dance is typically contemporary, I always love a good popper. Last week, Elias Holloway and his brother performed this routine, and although Elias did not get a ticket to Vegas, his routine has become a favorite audition of mine.
SYTYCD has introduced me to a lot of new musical artists in the past and this audition is no exception. I've become a fan of the electronic song: Techno Rock, by Heiko & Maiko.
Lt. Daniel Choi, who is being discharged because he is gay, wrote an open letter to President Obama and every member of Congress. Below is an excerpt of that letter. You can read the full letter at CNN.
As an infantry officer, I am not accustomed to begging. But I beg you today: Do not fire me. Do not fire me because my soldiers are more than a unit or a fighting force – we are a family and we support each other. We should not learn that honesty and courage leads to punishment and insult. Their professionalism should not be rewarded with losing their leader. I understand if you must fire me, but please do not discredit and insult my soldiers for their professionalism.
When I was commissioned I was told that I serve at the pleasure of the President. I hope I have not displeased anyone by my honesty. I love my job. I want to deploy and continue to serve with the unit I respect and admire. I want to continue to serve our country because of everything it stands for.
Please do not wait to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Please do not fire me.
Ryan Murphy, the creator of Nip/Tuck, channels his lighter side to bring us a new musical-comedy about the dog-eat-dog world of high school Glee Clubs. Murphy has described Glee as "a very optimistic, uplifting show for a very dark time."
The show will restrict the musical numbers to rehearsals and performances, limiting the campiness of everyone randomly bursting into song.
Although Glee will be part of FOX's Fall '10 lineup, FOX is airing the one-hour pilot after American Idol's finale (Tuesday, May 19), taking advantage of the usually large audience.
